Judging from the lack of updates for the last week, it's quite evident that it has been quite a monotonous week for me. Did nothing much on the holiday of Vesak Day, except stay at home to study Thai. I was down with a bad sore throat on Friday night, so I didn't really want much action on that night. Instead, I settled down on watching Shrek 3 in Princess Cinema. It's a freaking hilarious show, so hilarious that I still can't get over the ticklish whenever I think back about some of the scenes.
Yesterday, I went to the IT fair at Suntec with Laibao. Along the way to the fair, I dropped by a music store and found what I've been searching for for weeks - the Minutes to Midnight MVI. When I was making payment, the assistant beside the cashier had placed some VCD near what I was going to pay for, and the cashier thought it was my purchase as well. She confirmed with me if I really wanted to buy the VCD, and I said 'ya', thinking that Laibao actually wanted to buy it and I might as well settle the payment at the same time. Suddenly, Laibao asked me 'Eh, you buying it arh?', and I counter-asked him the same thing. I realized that the VCD was placed there by accident, and upon a closer look, the cover seemed to be depicting Jesus and some characters during that time. The cashier really had a good laugh over the incident. I got myself a really good deal at the IT fair. I bought 3 pieces of DDR2 1GB 667Mhz RAM, 2 for my soon-to-come laptop and 1 for my desktop, each going for the same price of $54. The stall beside was selling each for $48, but I've decided that the extreme queue wasn't worth it. The fair was crowded just like any other IT fair. After a good 2 hours of pushing through the crowd, we decided to drop by Sim Lim just to see if I had really struck a good deal. Along the way, we had our dinner at this expensive-looking vegetarian restaurant, but in the end the prices turned out to be really reasonable and the food was great. After some looking-around in Sim Lim, we've concluded that the prices at the IT fair was indeed cheap, and to our amazement, the prices in Sim Lim seemed to be around 2 to 3 times of that in the IT show! That made me regret - the fact that I didn't buy even more pieces at the IT show! At around 7.30, we decided to take a bus to the Akira showroom in Jurong East, as there was a warehouse sales going on there and Laibao needed to get a new TV. We reached there right after sunset, and the crowd there wasn't any better than that at the IT show. Fortunately, Laibao already had a specified model in mind, and we just grabbed the coupon, made payment, filled up the lucky draw vouchers, collected the TV, flagged down a cab and got the hell out to Laibao's place. Setting up the TV physically was swift, but we had a hard time tuning the channels, due to some usability problems with the TV saving the channel frequency and not documenting it properly within the user manual. We discovered the right way to do it by trial-and-error. That took us like a whopping 90 mins. Initially, we had plans to head to Changi Village to relax after setting up the TV, but since it was reaching 11pm by the time we were done with the channels, we decided to drop the plan. Just as I left Laibao's place, my right-ankle gave way for no apparent reason, forcing me into spending a few bucks on taking a cab once again. I anticipated having difficulties getting a cab as it was near to midnight (maybe not too near - about 11.15pm or so). The cabby seemed to know nuts about the route, and in the end, I directed him through each point on the route. Well, at least I appreciate that he was willing to admit his ignorance and allow me to direct him instead of acting smart and going the long way just to earn a few extra bucks from me. Upon reaching home, I rewarded my long day with a bath, watched a bit of TV and surfed the net before retiring to bed at.. 5am. My initial plan for today was to visit the IT fair once again to get more stuff which I've failed to get yesterday, but it was ruined due to the fact that I was still unable to walk from the mysterious swollen ankle. Instead, I wasted my day at home surfing the web and viewing my Minutes to Midnight MVI. An abstract thought popped into my head sometime during the afternoon. I was wondering how the world would be like in year 3000. 993 years into the future may seem very far, but don't forget how much written record we've had since 1000+ or even 2000+ years ago. However, I'm not very willing to imagine how it would be like, since I know my imagination would probably be invalid as I don't even know what kind of technology would be present during that time.
